Inoculations

  • Vaccinations are a way of life in the U.S. Military. All new recruits (both officer and enlisted) are vaccinated against various diseases during enlisted basic training or during officer accession training. While many vaccinations are given during basic training, other vaccinations (and/or “booster shots” are given at various times while in the service, and some are given only to certain designated personnel, or for assignment/deployment to various locations around the World.

Thrift Savings Plan

  • In 1986, Congress established the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) to provide retirement income. In terms of tax benefits and savings, it is similar to the 401(k) plans offered by private corporations, and the income it generates is dependent upon the amount of money you contribute to the account during your working years.

Initial Written Retest

  • For any recruit that didn’t pass their Initial Written Test on Tuesday they will have the opportunity to retake the test today. Basically all the knowledge they have learned so far is tested. Almost every single recruit retains a lot more then they even realize.

TRAINING WEEK 6 – GRASS WEEK

Range-BulletIntroduction to Combat Marksmanship

  • “Every Marine a rifleman” is a mantra that is central to the Marine Corps culture.  Marines are united by the shared experience of the training they all endure which is aimed at achieving proficiency as warfighters first; everything else is secondary.  This is another testament to the exceptionality of the Marine Corps, that all Marines are held to the highest of standards.

Parris Island Museum Tour Overview

More then likely this will be the highlight of the recruits’ day. They really like to go in and learn about the history and actually get to see some of the uniforms, pictures, gear, etc that they have been learning about in their knowledge classes. They will watch a 15 minute film in the theater.

Foreign Language Program Overview

Basically a test for aptitude in learning foreign languages.  The linguist occupational field includes all the Marine Corps MOSs related to identifying and understanding specific foreign languages.
